This 32GB SSD Solid State Disk from Transcend is suitable for systems with the IDE/PATA inteface. When mounting in desktop computers, adapter brackets are often necessary to ensure safe computing. This drive is compatible with most mainstream PC and notebook computers. The 2.5-inch IDE interface SSD has a tough outer metal case, enormous capacities, high reliability, low power consumption and anti-shock features that make it ideal to replace Hard Disk Drives. Transcend’s 2.5-inch IDE SSD series has a distinct advantage over standard 2.5” HDDs in that it is a solid-state memory with no moving parts, and therefore not susceptible to mechanical failure as a result of vibrations.

Transcend’s 2.5-inch IDE SSD is compact in size and its thickness is only 7.4mm, which makes it very easy to install in PCs and notebooks. In addition, the 2.5-inch IDE SSD has built-in ECC (Error Correction Code) functionality that ensures highly reliable data transfer and increases your systems energy efficiency.

My (2005-built) Powerbook G4 HDD finally expired and the local specialist announced that the IDE drive was obsolete and irreplaceable. The MemoryC website came up trumps with several IDE SSD replacement options. While not the cheapest (or per GB), the Transcend 64GB drive seemed a reliable option and (while slightly smaller than the HDD) perfectly adequate. The price is competitive, the delivery cheap and prompt. The drive was fitted with no difficulty and the Powerbook is back running packages that I cannot run on my more recent iMac. The drive is silent and faster than the HDD, so I concur with the previous reviewers regarding the drive and MemoryC service

Panasonic Toughbook with 7yrs of hard work on the clock ... HDD finally failed after 29,000 hours of use. REALLY didn't want to upgrade the PC as the Toughbook is still an excellent platform for the 'in-the-field' work I do, so a new HDD was the obvious option.

An older IDE format limited the range of solid state HDD available (and pushed the cost) but the results are amazing. Completely silent, power consumption is markedly lower (so battery life is nearly 20mins longer on a charge). Boot-up, program start-up, in fact all the normal machine operations are improved. I can't actually find a fault with this device and would recommend moving to solid state to anyone, anyone who wants to breath new life into a older PC
